The Highland Park Scots secured their first victory of the 2026 season on Friday night, defeating longtime rival Tyler 38-21 at Highlander Stadium. Entering the contest with an uncharacteristic 0-2 record, head coach Randy Allen's squad flipped the script with a balanced offensive attack and a resurgent defensive effort to finally get into the win column.

Quarterback Buck Randall continued his stellar start to the year, utilizing his arm and his legs to dissect the Lions' secondary. Randall connected with receiver Liam Thomas for a massive 76-yard touchdown strike down the right sideline and later found him again in the end zone on a scramble drill. The signal-caller also kept the chains moving by delivering a 20-yard touchdown pass to Beckett Lawrence along the left boundary.

On the ground, James Flowers provided the heavy lifting in the red zone. Flowers punched in a pair of short rushing touchdowns, capping off methodical drives with scoring runs of one and four yards. Defensively, the Scots took a massive step forward after surrendering nearly 50 points per game in the first two weeks. Corbin Gray pounced on a crucial Tyler fumble, and Lee Wagner registered a drive-killing sack to keep the momentum on the home sideline, successfully neutralizing several big plays from the Tyler offense.

Now sitting at 1-2, Highland Park heads back on the road next week for a non-district matchup against Argyle at Eagle Stadium. The Scots will look to build a winning streak in their final tune-up before returning home for the district opener against Naaman Forest.
