The Fort Worth Christian Cardinals saw their impressive winning streak snapped on Friday night, falling 8-4 to Southwest Christian at Cat Corden Field. The hard-fought loss in the second game of the TAPPS district series drops FWC's overall record to 17-4 and their district mark to 3-1. Despite the setback, the Cardinals showed relentless fight, attempting to rally back after an early deficit.
Southwest Christian came out swinging, building a lead with a string of well-placed hits. The visitors extended their early advantage when C Martin lined an RBI single to right field to score C Reasoner. Moments later, M Woerner delivered a crushing two-run single that brought home M Monsisvais and B Portwood, putting the Cardinals in a deep hole.
Refusing to go quietly, Fort Worth Christian's offense mounted a spirited response. Grady Emerson sparked the lineup by getting on base and putting pressure on the defense. Andrew Ridgell delivered a clutch line-drive single to right field, scoring Emerson and moving runners into scoring position. The Cardinals manufactured another run later in the contest when Jaxon Casselberry lifted a deep sacrifice fly to left field, allowing Emerson to tag up and score from third base.
Defensively, the Cardinals worked hard to keep the game within striking distance. Third baseman Jake Parkerson flashed the leather, smoothly fielding a grounder and throwing a strike to Andrew Ridgell at first for a key out. Outfielder Jacob Ward secured an important fly out to left, and relief pitcher Antonio Andujar provided a spark from the mound by striking out D Smith swinging.
Fort Worth Christian will look to shake off the loss and quickly rebound as they step out of TAPPS play for their next contest. The Cardinals remain at home to host Grace Prep on Tuesday, March 24, aiming to rediscover their winning rhythm before returning to the heart of the district schedule.
