The Fort Worth Christian Cardinals stepped outside of TAPPS district play for a midweek clash against the Grace Prep Lions, falling 4-3 in a tightly contested battle on Tuesday night at Cat Corden Field. Despite a gritty performance and highlight-reel defensive execution, the Cardinals couldn't complete the comeback, shifting their overall record to 18-5-1 on the season.
Defense was the calling card for FWC throughout the evening, constantly neutralizing Grace Prep's offensive threats. The hot corner was particularly active, as the Cardinals repeatedly stifled rallies. In a crucial sequence, a sharp grounder to third was seamlessly turned into an inning-ending double play to keep the game within striking distance. The infield also flexed its awareness on the basepaths, flawlessly executing a tag-out on a runner attempting to steal third base.
While the Cardinals showed their customary fight at the plate, the Lions' pitching staff managed to hold them off in the late innings. The game ultimately concluded on a fly out to right field, cementing the narrow 4-3 decision for the visitors.
