The Fort Worth Christian Cardinals returned to their explosive ways on Monday afternoon, overpowering the Austin Regents Knights 11-1 in the first matchup of a best-of-three doubleheader series at Cat Corden Field. Shaking off a rare shutout in their previous outing, FWC set a dominant postseason tone early with an offensive avalanche that culminated in a run-rule victory.
Power at the plate was the driving force for the Cardinals. Hank Austin provided a massive spark by blasting a home run over the left-field fence. Not to be outdone, Jake Parkerson also launched a home run to left field later in the contest, extending the Cardinals' commanding lead to 10-1 and keeping the Regents' pitching staff on their heels.
FWC's lineup consistently manufactured runs from top to bottom. Jaxon Casselberry delivered a clutch triple on a line drive that sailed over the center fielder's head, easily scoring Braylen James. Early in the game, Grady Emerson showed veteran patience, drawing a bases-loaded walk to bring Jacob Ward home from third and give the Cardinals a 2-1 advantage.
The game came to an abrupt end in run-rule fashion. With the bases loaded, Hank Austin took a hit-by-pitch, forcing Andrew Ridgell across the plate for the game-ending 11th run and sealing the emphatic blowout.
Fort Worth Christian won't have to wait long to build on this momentum. The Cardinals turn right back around to host Austin Regents in Game 2 of the doubleheader on Monday evening, looking to secure the series sweep.
