Colleyville Heritage Panthers football · 2026 season.

Colleyville Heritage earned its first win of the 2026 season on Friday night, relying on an opportunistic defense and a highly efficient passing attack to defeat Midlothian Heritage 34-23 on the road.

The Panthers’ defense set a dominant tone from the very first quarter, forcing early turnovers to keep Midlothian off balance. Eli Woolery pulled down a deep pass on a contested jump ball for a crucial interception, and defensive back Isaiah Haynes quickly followed suit, securing his first interception of the night along the sideline to shut down another drive.

Quarterback Lane Vargas capitalized on the defensive momentum in the second quarter. Vargas opened the scoring with a brilliant 25-yard touchdown strike into the end zone. He then engineered another scoring drive, finding wideout Lucas Sunwall on a sharp 3-yard slant over the middle to give the Panthers a lead they would relentlessly defend.

After Midlothian Heritage found the end zone to stay in the fight, Colleyville answered on the ground in the third quarter when running back Chandler Jones powered his way in for a 1-yard touchdown run. Vargas and Sunwall linked up again in the fourth quarter on a perfectly placed fade route for a touchdown, extending the Panthers' advantage and creating critical breathing room.

The night ultimately belonged to Haynes, who delivered a masterclass in the secondary. The standout defensive back crushed any hopes of a Midlothian comeback by jumping a pass for a pick-six in the fourth quarter, then secured his third interception of the game in the final moments to seal the 34-23 victory. Colleyville Heritage (1-1) stays on the road next Friday to face Mansfield Legacy.
