Southlake Carroll Dragons football · 2026 season · District.
In a highly anticipated showdown between undefeated district rivals, the Carroll Dragons seized control of the District 4-6A race with a 40-28 victory over the Keller Indians on Friday night at Dragon Stadium. The hard-fought win improves Carroll to 5-2 overall and a flawless 4-0 in district play, snapping Keller's perfect 6-0 start to the season and extending the Dragons' winning streak in the rivalry to 17 games.
The Dragons' multifaceted rushing attack proved to be the difference-maker. Quarterback Hudson Tomcheck orchestrated the offense brilliantly, using his legs to find the end zone twice on a goal-line sneak and a 10-yard keeper. The ground game also featured explosive plays, highlighted by a 46-yard jet sweep touchdown and tough running from Dez Bryant Jr. inside the tackles to constantly move the chains.
Carroll also reached into its bag of tricks to keep the Keller defense off balance. On special teams, upback Blake Gunter converted a crucial fake punt with an 8-yard run for a first down. Gunter later capitalized on a red-zone opportunity, taking a direct snap out of the wildcat formation and racing seven yards to the right pylon for a touchdown. Running back Brooks Biggers added to the punishing ground attack, punching in a 9-yard rushing score.
Defensively, the Dragons rose to the occasion when it mattered most. Clinging to a lead, the Carroll defensive front delivered a critical fourth-down stop, swarming the Keller quarterback for a sack in the backfield to force a turnover on downs and swing the momentum.
With their signature rivalry win secured, the battle-tested Dragons now hold sole possession of first place in the district. Carroll will look to maintain its momentum as they hit the road next week for another crucial district test against Byron Nelson.
